The excessive burning of fossil fuels has thrown the Earth’s carbon cycle out of balance. We add carbon to the air faster than the planet’s sinks can absorb it. If atmospheric CO2 levels continue to rise, we risk global warming irreversibly changing the world as we know it.

The challenge

Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and clearing land, have thrown the Earth’s carbon cycle out of balance. We add carbon to the air faster than the planet’s sinks can absorb it. Restoring the carbon cycle is vital for maintaining a stable climate and healthy ecosystems.

The Earth’s natural carbon cycle moves a large amount of carbon around our planet. It is an essential natural element that supports all life on earth. Carbon dioxide (CO2) helps to regulate atmospheric temperatures, and is the key feedstock for the growth of vegetation and food.

CO2 naturally travels between the atmosphere, oceans, plants, animals and rocks over time. One of nature's amazing balancing acts. What's being emitted by natural processes is more or less equal to what's being absorbed by natural carbon sinks.

Carbon emissions from human activities have tipped the scales, causing atmospheric carbon levels to grow exponentially. If they continue to rise at the current rate, we risk global warming irreversibly changing the world as we know it.

Regenerating carbon sinks to reverse the rise of CO2

To keep atmospheric carbon levels within a healthy and sustainable range, we need to do more than reduce our emissions to zero by 2050. We also need to preserve, regenerate, and develop natural and man-made carbon sinks to help reverse the rise of CO2 and restore the natural balance.

The solution

To keep atmospheric carbon levels within a healthy and sustainable range, we need to do more than reduce our emissions to zero by 2050. We also need to preserve, regenerate, and develop natural and man-made carbon sinks to help reverse the rise of CO2 and restore the natural balance. As our name suggests, Sinkit focuses on the latter. Also known as: carbon removal.

Sinkit supports the scale-up and viability of carbon removal projects by bringing in our extensive Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) experience and deep knowledge of carbon offsetting and by creating investment opportunities through our global partner network. We also guide the accreditation and verification process.

SCORE is the proprietary Sinkit Carbon Offset Rating & Evaluation methodology. It has been developed by Sinkit and tested on a broad range of projects and with sustainability professionals, investors and business leaders.
